Draftstreet move into Soccer with World Cup Big Score worth $100,000

The World Cup Finals begin on Thursday 12th July, and to celebrate this, DraftStreet have added soccer to its list of available of sports, offering a $10,000 contest to entice members to get involved – the winner picking up a cool $20,000.

To play in the event, there is a direct buy-in of just $22, although it is also possible to qualify through a series of satellites. These satellites are running throughout the tournament, and offer buy-ins for $1, $2 or $5.

For outfielders, goals are worth five points, and assists are worth three, with defenders who do not concede earning two points.

Other points are earned by shots on goals, and a red card will see players lose points as well as a player missing a penalty. Goalkeepers earn two points by keeping a clean sheet, two points for winning the game, and points for making a general save and saving a penalty, although they are penalized for every goal conceded.

The World Cup Big Score is a one day fantasy contest and will take place on Thursday June 26th when four matches will be taking place, including the all-important USA v Germany clash, which may see one or both of the teams progressing to the knockout rounds of the global event.

The $100,000 prize fund will be awarded all the way down to 750th place, this place paying $40. The top players just outside the top ten will earn a cool $300 and here is a run-down of the top ten payouts.

The games taking place on the 26th June are the third games for all eight of the teams, so you’ll be able to gain a great feel for all of the teams by watching and making notes on each of their previous games. Also being the third game, there might be a scenario where one of the teams doesn’t actually need to win, just needing a draw to proceed to the later stages of the tournament, so bear this is in mind when making your selections.

Another scenario you might encounter is that one of the teams may already have qualified, and perhaps won’t actually play their strongest team. Knowing these facts and using them to your advantage can keep you ahead of the game, and give you an edge over the opposition.

The 2014 World Cup is being played in Brazil, with thirty two teams aiming to lift the prestigious Jules Rimet Trophy on the evening of the 13th July. Host Nation Brazil can lay claim to favoritism for the global event, with Argentina, Germany and Spain close behind. Team USA have been given a difficult draw, drawn with both Germany and Portugal, however if they can proceed through this tough group, hopes will be high of a good run through the tournament.
